On the vast land between Taiyuan and Jinzhong in Shanxi, a mega project承载着 the aviation dream of Shanxi—the Phase III expansion and renovation of Taiyuan Wusu International Airport—is advancing at full speed.
As a key airport construction project under the CAAC’s “14th Five-Year Plan” with a total investment of over RMB 20 billion, it includes a new T3 terminal, a second runway, an integrated transportation center, and other supporting facilities. The project aims to build a comprehensive transportation hub radiating across North China and is certified by the National Development and Reform Commission as the nation’s first regional provincial zero-carbon airport construction project.
The Phase III expansion covers approximately 400,000 square meters and involves over 20 construction tasks such as foundation excavation, runway pouring, and viaduct piling. It features complex working conditions with “multiple parallel sections and interwoven processes.”
To address diverse construction needs, XCMG’s project team conducted thorough on-site studies and adopted a “one-scenario-one-solution” strategy for customized equipment matching. “From 1.7-ton mini excavators to 38-ton large models, XCMG has deployed over 100 excavators since the project’s inception, covering all airport construction scenarios,” the equipment manager stated.
Amid the roaring symphony of machinery, the steel framework of the T3 terminal rises swiftly, while the “air-rail-road” transport network expands rapidly. From the Loess Plateau to the boundless skies, XCMG is bolstering the new blueprint of Taiyuan Wusu Airport with its robust capabilities.
